Gonggong’s Turbulent Cycle — What Remains After Upheaval. This handcrafted necklace combines a black Dzi bead, natural agarwood, and hand-braided cord. Its design draws inspiration from Gonggong, the powerful water deity whose collision with Mount Buzhou disrupted heaven and earth. Rather than celebrating destruction, the necklace focuses on the quieter question that follows: what can we build after an old structure no longer holds?
Black Dzi — A Dark Point of Transition. The black Dzi bead forms the visual anchor of the necklace. Its deep color gives the design a strong and restrained center. Within this interpretation, it represents the uncertain space between an ending and a beginning. The old order has changed, yet the next one has not fully appeared. For that reason, the dark centerpiece suggests possibility rather than emptiness.
Agarwood — Experience Settled by Time. Natural agarwood brings warmth, grain, and an organic texture around the darker center. Its appearance develops through the life of the wood itself. In this design, agarwood represents the slower process that follows disruption. Experience needs time before it becomes judgment. Meanwhile, its natural brown tones soften the intensity of the black centerpiece.
Inspired by Gonggong. Gonggong’s myth shows the enormous consequences of uncontrolled force. This necklace therefore turns the story toward awareness. The black center represents sudden change, while agarwood represents the patience required afterward. Together, they suggest that rebuilding should not simply reproduce what existed before.
